The science
⏱ Time dilation
✓ Real todayEinstein's special relativity says that the faster you move, the slower your clock runs compared with someone standing still. It is small in daily life — and huge near light speed.
| Speed | 1 year aboard = |
|---|---|
| 30% of light | 1.05 years at home |
| 50% | 1.15 years |
| 87% | 2 years |
| 99% | 7.1 years |
- GPS satellites must correct their clocks by about 38 microseconds a day, or maps would drift by kilometres.
- Muons made by cosmic rays live only 2.2 microseconds, yet reach the ground — because their clocks run slow.
GameplayWhen your colony flies to a new star, the report tells you how many years passed at home and how many aboard.
