🛰 Survey probes and the belt
Asteroids differ: three in ten are poor, a few are rich, and an uncharted rock hides what it holds. A survey probe (⚡40 ⬢10, from the Neutrino Observatory) flies to one rock and reports its kind and how much is left — before you spend a rig on it. The Observatory's belt survey still charts everything in its range at once, at its own price.
- Pirates and warlords near a rock can shoot a probe down on the way in; the Probe Defence Package (research) gives probes a turret and a decoy so they always get through.
- You can have 2 probes out, plus one per Observatory level (shared with probes sent to chart a star).
- A probe to a star's centre (the star bar on the Map) charts every world round that star.
