The guide
🫧 Air and life support
The Gluon Shield is a defence field: it holds no air. Colonists live and breathe inside the pressurised Habitat Domes and the walkways between buildings, and wear EVA suits outside. Oxygen Electrolysers split water into oxygen and hydrogen with power; colonists use the oxygen up.
Air has no pipes of its own: every electrolyser feeds the colony's air reserve (shown in the top bar), and every dome draws on it, the way food works. An electrolyser needs a power line and a water pipe to run, and that is the whole network it needs.
- Build an Oxygen Electrolyser right after your first Habitat Dome. One airs about a dome and a half of its own level: 16 colonists at level 1, 180 at level 10.
- A dome houses 16 colonists at level 1 and 88 at level 10. Colonists beyond the jobs in your colony are idle: the dome panel counts them, and more workplaces (hangars, foundries, drills, labs) give them work.
- A dome breached in a raid leaks oxygen until you repair it.
- With no oxygen, colonists shelter in the hab cores, work stops and people die.
- MOXIE Oxygen research also pulls oxygen from carbon dioxide: 40% more for half the water.
- The dome and electrolyser panels show the colony's vitals: oxygen, pressure, temperature and radiation.
